Frightened Rabbit “The Midnight Organ Fight”

3.5/5

Hailing from Scotland, it is obvious this inspirational four piece band sport a we-just-love-making-music-and-don’t-care-if-you-like-it-or-not attitude.  The Midnight Organ Fight is Frightened Rabbit’s second studio album, produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National), which takes its listener on a melodic journey – integrating their catchy trademark acoustics with some rocky riffs and emotionally charged lyrics.

The album opens with a very mellow, acoustic track entitled The Modern Leper which slowly builds and prepares its audience for what the next 13 tracks have to offer. Scott Hutchison’s strong Scottish accent aside, some could say Frightened Rabbit’s sound is somewhat similar to that of American indie band Death Cab for Cutie. Another notable track on the album is My Backwards Walk. The minimalistic instrumentation of the song accentuates the lyrics and how relatable they are in say… any break-up situation - just imagine it being played in a little indie flick where the strategically alternative guy realises he’s still in love with his ex and goes running to stop her plane from leaving in the rain.

Overall, The Midnight Organ Fight is one of those chilled out, emotionally confronting records that would be perfect as your muse while you’re drifting off to sleep. And the three bonus tracks at the end of the album are just the icing on the cake right?
