Laneway Festival: Cut Off Your Hands
Nick from the New Zealand outfit Cut Off Your Hands sheds some light on his previous Laneway Festival experiences, heat stroke and what the band is up to as he casually sips from his plastic cup of mysteries.
This New Zealand pop-punk act has come a long way since their inception in 2006 as the Shaky Hands. They’ve toured on their own and alongside Love Is All, We Are Scientists, You Am I, Ratatat, Bloc Party, The Wombats, Shihad, The Datsuns and more. Changing their name to Cut Off Your Hands to avoid any kind of diva law suit with American band The Shaky Hands, these boys went on to release their debut EP, Shaky Hands, in 2006 and a follow-up EP, Blue on Blue, in 2007, receiving some impressive reviews and scoring a spot on the 2007 Big Day Out line-up.
In 2008, Cut Off Your Hands released their first full-length album, You and I, produced and recorded by Bernard Butler of Suede fame. They’ve since toured New Zealand and Australia as apart of the St Jerome’s Laneway festival and are currently doing the rounds in the States where they are a building a solid reputation, having previously played at the famous South by Southwest festival in Texas.
A few recent changes have meant a new guitarist for the band and only just last month the band’s drummer, Brent Harris, announced he would have to take a hiatus due to some rather serious hearing issues. The rest of them will be kicking on though, delivering more of that angular Buzzcocks-esque punk that have established this New Zealand band as one wucked act.
