Sinden/ Fake Blood @ The Empire

One word. Sweat. Pouring out of every gland of every human body, dripping from strands of untamed hair, mixing with the juices of the person next to you and soaking your clothes until it felt like you just swam across the Brisbane River. But no one really noticed.

All bodies and minds in attendance at The Empire Hotel on Thursday night were overpowered, yielding unchallenged to the incredible electro grindcore that engulfed them - thanks to UK wonder boys Sinden and Fake Blood.

Both these kids know how to work a room. One minute you were grinding deep and slow, getting your ghetto on with the rest of the playas [sic] around you, then you were just loosing your shit and going so hard you could have put someone in hospital.

It was an awesome night. The atmosphere was intense, the crowd – insane.

Every time Fake Blood put down a solid beat, the room would groan in ecstasy or scream with euphoria.

A highlight of the night was definitely when he dropped in his original rave-tastic anthem Mars, which spun everyone’s heads 360 degrees. It was like getting jiggy with a bunch of foaming-at-the-mouth party zombies. I think some heads actually did explode.

The sound quality was great (of course), and apart from a few testosterone-induced kafuffles here and there, the crowd was pretty happy to rock out in unison.

Sinden brought equal pleasure on the dance floor, although his beats didn’t feel as powerful – but that could have just been me. It was still an experience to remember.

The mosh pit was packed shoulder to shoulder for a fair distance, something I’ve only beheld a few times at a club.

The venue catered fairly well, although I don’t know how much of a fan everyone is of stairs (especially girls like me who decided to wear the stilettos).

My only real problem with The Empire is their horrid policy of charging $5 for a bottle of water and not supplying their patrons with access to any alternative. I suppose they’ll realise how cruel it is when someone collapses from dehydration or worse.

But in the end it was a ripper of a night. If you missed it keep your ears open for when Sinden and/or Fake Blood are back in town, it’s all-time when you want to get your crunk on.

I wanted to go to this gig - not sure why I didn’t end up going… but none the less!
Good writeup - first couple of pars really capture the essence of Fake Blood/Sinden’s fidget goodness.
