Drones play free gig to launch new Brisbane venue

Submitted by admin on April 9, 2009 – 6:24 pmNo Comment

The Drones will return from their sell out tour of the United States to play in Brisvegas for FREE.

Crazy as it seems, The Drones, who hail from Melbourne, are travelling to Brisbane to celebrate the opening of a spectacular new music venue that’s going to shake Brisbane’s music scene.

‘The Hi Fi’ is one of Melbourne’s most prestigious music venues (currently playing host to The Melbourne Comedy Festival) and it looks like Brisbane is about to get a taste of the action with a sister bar and ballroom due to open at the end of the month. The Hi Fi is bringing its love for live to West End!

The multimillion dollar renovation on the shell of the old pavilion hotel is almost complete, transforming the popular bar and eatery into a venue with all the greatest gizmos and gadgets to enhance your live music experience.

The opening, on April 29th, is said to be a “watershed moment in Brisbane’s live music history” and 1000, people (I’d say lucky, but its first in best dressed) get to partake in the festivities. Two tickets to the event will be handed out to the first 500 entrants, each valued at $60.

The draw is next Friday 17th of April (entries close Thursday), and it’s set to be one hell of a party.  The celebrations kick off with support acts ‘Hits’ and ‘Witch Hats’, who were hand picked by The Drones themselves out of 215 artists.

The drones are playing at Ripe Festival at Noosa and Groovin’ the Moo Festival in New South Wales and Victoria, are promoting their new album Havilah, which is available as a high quality and 100% legal download online from their website, following the trends in online distribution.

Post Australian, The band will move on to tour Europe, their London show is already sold out!

In the next few months, The Hi Fi will also play host to The Grates, Little Birdy, Tiki Taane, Ratatat, Kate Miller Heidke plus heaps more, AND if you fancy yourself as a bit of a photographer you could have chance to gain entry into gigs absolutely free, just see they’re websites.

Brisbane’s music scene is about to get a whole lot bigger.
