Yeah Yeah Yeah’s vs Animal Collective
In what has to be one of the year’s biggest and most incongruent collaborations, rivaled only by that Thom Yorke remix of MF Doom, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have signed Animal Collective up to reinterpret their massive single “Zero”. The track is being released as the B-side on one of a couple of 7″ vinyl versions of the single, the other featuring a typically rude reworking by Erol Alkan.
The track finds Karen O’s vocals chopped and screwed and lost in an undulating, dubby soundscape, while Animal Collective’s signature hyperactive synths are slowed to something like quarter speed, bubbling up then down. It is definitely an intriguing listen and is streaming over on Gorilla Vs Bear for those of us who don’t dust off the old turntable much anymore.

I enjoy Animal Collectives high energy pieces and although I’m not a huge Yeah Yeah Yeah fan I didn’t mind ‘Zero’ BUT i just didn’t feel as if it mixed well. It just seemed a little dull…….
Well that was a sparked-up, interesting thought.
To collaborate these two groups and that song!
Cheers for the link !
