DANANANANAYKROYD to play Splendour, Second lineup released

Submitted by admin on June 18, 2009 – 1:44 pmNo Comment

Dananananaykroyd (say it with me, Dana-nana-naykroyd) have been announced to play this year’s Splendour in The Grass festival in Byron on the 25th and 26th of July.

It’s the first stop for the Glaswegian five-piece, who will embark on a tour of Sydney and Melbourne on the 29th and 30th of July respectively.

The indie-rockers have been gathering a cult following after the recent success of the corporate bigwig music event South by Southwest, which saw them prance around the stage of a very fitting Dirty Dog Bar in Texas.

Earning a spot at the Daughter of all festivals (well, I could have called it the Mother of all festivals this year; Radiohead are playing) the Reading and Leeds fest, and supporting the likes of catchy Leeds lads The Kaiser Chiefs, their set is one you don’t want to miss. Purely because of the fun you’ll have prancing around to their catchy guitar riffs.

Also added to the Splendour lineup this morning, are classic Manchester band Happy Mondays, which I’m sure anyone who likes The Smiths would like the Mondays. I’m not so sure what it is with Manchurians and jangly guitar riffs (is it their preference of their Rickenbacker, or similar-sounding guitars?), but damn, it sounds good. Vocalist Shaun Ryder contributed vocals to the Gorrillaz track Dare, which should be all familiar to you.

Speaking of Manchurians, whoever wrote that the Manchester scene was dying anyway? It’s not, and DOVES, on the success of their second album Kingdom of Rust, are proving this. Doves are heading to Splendour this year! Yay!

The eccentric Architecture in Helsinki have also agreed to play Splendour this year. After supporting The Presets on a whirlwind tour, they are about to fine-tune their new album, which is currently titled Vision Revision. They will no doubt be playing some new tracks from the album for all those thirsty AIH fans out there, who have been replaying the 2008 track That Beep to death.

So there’s a few of the new acts added to Splendour. I must say, in my opinion, any lineup that has Kisschasy added to it is a poor one. But heck, DOVES are playing! The news of that made my morning.

The full-line up includes:

Bloc Party, The Flaming Lips, Jane’s Addiction, MGMT, Hilltop Hoods, Grinspoon, Midnight Juggernauts, The Specials, Sarah Blasko, Augie March, Josh Pyke, Friendly Fires, Little Birdy, Birds Of Tokyo, The Gutter Twins, Manchester Orchestra, Yuksek, Bob Evans, White Lies, Kram, Yves Klein Blue, Decoder Ring, Lost Valentinos, Leader Cheetah, Jack Ladder, The Middle East, Polaroid Fame and Glass Towers are joined by Happy Mondays, Doves, Architecture In Helsinki, You Am I, The Beautiful Girls, Downsyde & Drapht, Kisschasy, Little Red, Bluejuice,  Children Collide, Miami Horror Live, Art vs. Science, Paul Dempsey, Dappled Cities, Dananananaykroyd, Holly Throsby, Bridezilla and Deya Dova.
