Sarah gets the Gold
The ever-lovely Sarah Blasko has soared to dizzying heights this week with the news that third album As Day Follows Night has achieved Gold album sales after just three weeks in release.
As Day Follows Night was born out of a vacant office in Sydney’s Darlinghurst with nothing more than an old piano and a few band posters lining the wall. Thanks to a chance friendship with Björn Yttling of folk trio Peter, Björn and John, the album was mixed and recorded within four weeks at Atlantis and Decibel studios during a typically chilly Scandinavian winter in Sweden.
It’s not the first time that the chanteuse has lapped up the accolades. Both of Blasko’s previous studio albums, The Overture & The Underscore and What The Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have, climbed the charts and inevitably reached platinum album sales, as well as reaping an ARIA for Best Pop Release for the latter and coveting seven other ARIA nominations, a J award nomination and a nod for the prestigious Australian Music Prize.
After stunning the crowd with her sugar and spice timbered voice at this year’s Splendour In The Grass, Miss Blasko will hit the Scandinavian festival season, returning to the source of the influence for the largely introspective tone present on As Day Follows Night. She will then grace Australian audiences with her very engaging presence this October for a national tour accompanied by a seven-piece band. But be quick – Perth shows have already sold out.
