Thom Yorke and friends to showcase solo work

Submitted by admin on October 5, 2009 – 12:05 amNo Comment

Everyone’s favourite obscurity Thom Yorke has dropped some big names to form the line up for his first round of live solo performances. Efforts to secure a diverse representation of music’s finest has been delivered in the form of Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers, REM cohort Joey Waronker, Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Mauro Refosco, and long-time pal and producer Nigel Godrich.

Yorke has been leaving snippets of info regarding the new project on Radiohead’s Dead Air Space blog, unravelling hint by hint the sort of wayward evening that one may expect with such a mixed bag of performers.

“In the past couple of weeks I’ve been getting a band together for fun to play ‘The Eraser’ live and the new songs etc, to see if it could work! We don’t really have a name and the set will not be very long cuz… well… we haven’t got that much material yet! But come and check it out if you are in the area.”

A further look at Yorke’s thoughtful meanderings suggest a lot of time has been spent revelling in said new project, with updates on the collaboration efforts and an esteemed recommendation to keep a close eye on our world leader’s in wake of the climate change summit in Copenhagen. Which basically translates to: no word yet on an impending Radiohead album or tour.

Monikers for the Brit’s new project have been suggested (mostly in jest, mind you) with Thombolo, Thomosexual, The Duke of Yorke, and T.Homme all vying for a worthy spot on what is likely to be a truly insane gig poster.

Yorke and the amazing all-star quartet will debut the fruit of these efforts on October 4th & 5th at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theatre.
