St Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2010 Lineup
If you’re a Melbournian, you will be so proud of this little festival. It started with St Jerome’s- a (now extinct) bar and café in a dingy lane next to a mountain of rubbish bins, surrounded by graffiti and punters would sit on milk crates smoking and watching the confused tourists stop and stare at how crazily busy a grungy old café can get. Everyone went there. One of boys from The Temper Trap used to work behind the bar…
It was extremely cool.
The first festival was on a sweaty day in Caledonian Lane, next to St Jerome’s itself. The laneway was closed off and music fans danced next to the hot, wet garbage.
Now the festival has grown to Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. With Melbourne’s laneway festival now moving to inner-city suburb Footscray to avoid the CBD hustle and bustle.
The 2010 lineup, in true St Jerome’s fashion, is killer. It’s everything that this café used to represent.
First, Florence + The Machine will put their signature bohemian stamp on the 2010 festival. Lead vocalist Florence Welch’s signature eclecticism and crazy dance moves will fit in with this quirky, intimate gig.
Donnie Darko fans will love the addition of 80’s post-punk group Echo & The Bunnymen. They have a new album, The Palace, and their set will hopefully include some of the classic stuff too.
Buzz band of the moment Mumford & Sons are the selling point of the festival, with a heap of new, obsessed fans stemming from their hit single “Little Lion Man”. The hyped four piece has a new album out, “Sigh No More” and will be playing hits from this critically acclaimed album.
So, if these acts haven’t won you over in terms of pure awesomeness, here’s a complete list of acts. Be prepared of excitement-induced spasming.
Echo & The Bunnymen, Florence and The Machine, Black Lips, The XX, Daniel Johnston, Sarah Blasko, N.AS.A, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Hockey, Dappled Cities, Mumford and Sons, Radio Clit, The Very Best, Wild Beasts, Whitely, The Middle East, Kid Sam, and Dirty Three (Melbourne only)
