The Battle of The Festivals.
Ahh, Summer. The season of fat hairy men in suits, barbeques, binge drinking and general tomfoolery. Add to this: a superb lineup of artists at a myriad of festivals awaiting your attendance.
Summer is looking pretty fricken’ sweet right now. Whether you’ll be drinking tinnies in Lorne’s amphitheatre in your pluggers listening to the ultra disco stylings of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’, where you’ll be ringing in the New Year with musical pride; or over at Phillip Island where you’ll be camped at Pyramid Rock, jazzing away to the funky beats of The Cat Empire.
Ringing in the New Year musically has never seemed so appealing.
You could even do a road trip to Sunset Sounds to witness the same bands at Falls a few days later, minus the haziness of New Years.
If you’re not into this; bogan pride/Aussie Icon The Big Day Out has something for every music fan; from Calvin Harris to Rise Against. You can sip your cool beer you waited 30 minutes in a drink ticket line (which you deserve by now), sit on the grass and indulge in this nationwide social event.
Just don’t forget the sunscreen!
A few days later, when you’re (almost) recovered, you could enjoy the laid-back, artistic feel of St Jerome’s Laneway Festival. Quirky musician/artist Daniel Johnston defines this character-filled event, rich in Melbourne’s cultural history. Just the recovery session you need.
By now you’re probably feeling a bit angsty and suffering withdrawals at missing festivals; so hop on over to Soundwave. The Punk/Hardcore festival will see you regaining your strength and taking out a few emos in the process. FUCK YEAH!
But, if you’re feeling like dancing rather than punching someone in the head for bidding goodbye to the festival season, Good Vibrations, is well, a good vibe for celebrating the end of the Summer festival season. Of course, there’s still the V Festival…
The choices are yours.
