It is official; the end is near.

That arrogant ass from the Hives was right - It’s too late, it’s too soon and times are tick tick tick BOOM - ing. Just look at the signs; the world is shattered and in a state of economic fuckery, Michael Jackson is dead, Blur is back together and Bowie was rumoured for Big Day Out.

Seriously.

But don’t fret just yet. There is light at the end of the tunnel. And that light shines out of Florence Welch’s talented ass. This pretty pale girl mixes jazz and folk with her blue-eyed soul like nothing else. Her pipes are big enough to shake the rain from the trees and have everyone scream for help. And this is exactly what Ms Welch wants. She admits “I want my music to sound like throwing yourself out of a tree, or off a tall building, or as if you’re being sucked down the ocean and cant breathe.” And if her song “Rabbit Heart” doesn’t make you feel this, then get your hearing check.

Florence and the Machines new album Lungs is brilliant. When listening to this electric album, you find it hard to sustain the raw excitement from those initial tracks. She claims she writes her best songs when she’s drunk or has a hangover, “because that’s when the freedom and the feral music comes out.” Who has tried this? Not I, but if it’s going to get me a seat on Florence’s rollercoaster, I am already reaching for the tequila.

As tragic as it is, the world is ending. And my advice to you is simple; download Florence and the Machines new album Lungs right NOW. It is your savior. And if that fails, at least you’ve got some sweet beats to rock out to as we go down. The Dog’s days may be over readers, but quirky Ms Welch’s are just beginning.

Florence And The Machines will be playing at Laneway Festival 2010! Tickets go on sale on the 30th October 2009. Go to www.lanewayfestival.com.au for all the info!
