4. THEM CROOKED VULTURES ALBUM RELEASED!

The never-ending story of bands making a comeback slaps a big fat grin across my face. It makes perfect sense for bands from the ’80s to relive their glory days. I mean why the hell not? Come back, Play some more, tour some more, do it all again. The music world of naughties has seen a real revival of ’80s sounds.

Bands such as Led Zeppelin, Crowded House, My Bloody Valentine, Black Sabbath and even the Spice Girls are dusting off synths and re-applying eyeliner. And us music lovers, we are loving it. These revival tours and shows are doing well, and not just with old-rockers and used-to-be-fans. Gigs such as these have produced a new generation of fans- the ones that raid Mum and Dad’s record collection. Offspring of the original rockers are picking up sounds from the parentals cupboards, dusting them off, giving them a whirl and listening to the old groove.

If you haven’t yet heard of supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, I think you too may be still in Mum and Dad’s dusty old cupboard. This band groups together drummer Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age), vocalist and guitarist Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal) and bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin). No wonder the kids are frothing.

The band’s self-titled debut album is due for release today and has been called the most anticipated release of 2009, -I have no doubt it is. Their song ‘Mind Eraser, No Chaser’ has been receiving loads of Triple J airplay and is the epitome of the band’s hard-rocking, Zeppelin-inspired sound. My personal favourite however is ‘New Fang’. The riff of this one treads heavy on your ears and the wild slide guitar revives that 80’s rock groove. You can hear this one on MySpace, check it out.

The band are set to tour with their new album in 2010, kicking off in the US and UK and then an exclusive 4 shows in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. I must warn you though, this is going to be one hell of a show!
