Homme’s wife brings Spinnerette to Oz
Brody Dalle has all the charm and brooding intensity of a cornered snake; her sleek and non-plussed exterior is hypnotising. But make a silly move and her strike is swift and brutal, assaulting senses with a voice that could be likened to an angel who had a few too many the night before. This is the sobering personality that fronts US rock outfit Spinnerette and it’s coming your way.
Spinerette’s frontwoman is no stranger to the ups and downs of the rock n roll lifestyle. The Australian native formerly fronted The Distillers, a down and dirty bar band with an insanely loyal cult-like following. But Dalle’s raw set of pipes were needed elsewhere, to deal with the shit that life throws at you from time to time. Spinnerette gave her the chance to “let the tap flow.”
Now the chanteuse is coming home to seal the deal with a national tour following the release of Spinnerette’s debut self-titled album in June this year. The 13-track long-player has some impressive cred to boot; produced by Alain Johannes (Them Crooked Vultures, Arctic Monkeys) and recorded at Pink Duck (yep, Josh Homme’s studio in Los Angeles- the two were married recently), the line-up also features Johannes, former Distillers’ cohort Tony Bevilacqua and Jack Irons (Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chilli Peppers).
Spinnerette possess a frontwoman in Dalle who shatters expectations and obliterates audiences with a ferocity unrivalled by her female peers, making her and her ascerbic stage presence a must-see live show. Intense is a word that is bandied about an awful lot when it comes to bands, but it is most welcome in this regard. You have been warned.
