“Killing In The Name Of” hits UK #1
Good taste and sound judgement have overcome “sterile pop,” thanks to some die-hard fans and determined music lovers.
After settling into the number two spot as previously reported by MyVisionTV last week, Rage Against The Machine claimed pole position this week on the UK music charts in a sensational battle against Simon Cowell’s The X Factor favourite, Joe McElderry.
The 1992 RATM classic “Killing In The Name Of” was the most downloaded single ahead of McElderry’s Miley Cyrus cover, “The Climb”, after a Facebook group urged fans of the iconic band, and those who did not want to see “yet another Christmas chart-topper from that show again,” to get downloading and show some pride.
“Killing In The Name Of” beat “The Climb” by over 50,000 individual sales, making it the UK’s first download-only Christmas number one and the biggest week in download sales.
RATM issued this statement via their official website:
“WE DID IT! RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE IS XMAS NUMBER ONE. We’ve shown that we can make a difference and that you don’t have a right to number one just because Simon Cowell says so, especially with a bad cover! We gotta take the power back.”
Proceeds from the downloaded sales will go directly to UK charity, Shelter.
