Albums of the Decade
As the oh so popularly-dubbed “noughties” come to a close, sweet nostalgia is seeping into the air and intoxicating those who had their fair share of interests vested in and ignited by the past decade. Polictics, wars, finances and natural disasters have ravaged our lands and become the most revisted events listed in mainstream media’s “farewell to the noughties” lists.
But art has also rippled across the surface of these devastating atrocities, infusing colour into bleak circumstances by inspiring much-needed social commentary and becoming that special, positive place that we all need to turn to sometimes.
This is the way that I see music; not as a commodity that is adored for it’s chart-topping success then forgotten the instant it plummets, but as something that is so precious it stands the test of time, something that can be revisted and reinterpreted, but most importantly, it’s that special place that understands you like no one or anything else does. Music is a universal creature; but the profound effect that takes place within our psyche each time we chuck on our favourite song is entirely individual. Those songs that make you believe it was written entirely for you, they’re the ones I’m talking about.
The “noughties” have provided me with an ample supply of songs that will forever be kept in my Itunes’ “My Tunes” playlist, top shelf in my CD rack and sheltered lovingly in a cool, dark place in my ever-growing vinyl collection.

- Carley Hall

I have to say that Paul Dempsey - Everything is True for me was a great album of 2009.
Also, Mumford and Sons - Sigh No More was quickly chasing it.
Not a bad selection though!
