Ukulele trailer-park star to tour Oz

Submitted by Carley Hall on January 15, 2010 – 1:26 pmNo Comment

Occasionally the most rewarding musical gems are found in the least likely of places. Recording his debut album in his Mississippi trailer instantly turns a curious eye to Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele.

Discovered by Animal Collective during the recording of Merriweather Post Pavillion in nearby Oxford, Dent May has made a very likeable and much talked of name for himself, regailing everything from 1950s pop to 1970s lo-fi numbers, all with the aid of his trusty ukulele and cohort Robert Chisolm.

Animal Collective loved him so much, they released May’s debut album The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele on their very own label, Paw Tracks.

With such a diverse array of influences and favourite artists adding to this talented young man’s repetoire (Serge Gainsbourg, Lee Hazlewood, and even Prince), it’s no wonder the people are talking about this exciting new addition to the indie-pop scene.

Catch him when he comes out to Oz so you can be the first one to say “I told you so.”
