Brisbane sons The John Steel Singers make the most of their opening slot over on Riverstage, wasting no time in energising the sore and sorry crowd after the previous day’s fare, striking a chord with favourites “Masochist” and “The Staged Intervention of Poor Rich By His Righteous Peers.” Their mixture of horns, keys and superhero get-ups tend to go down well in the live setting and today is no exception. Things take a turn for the weird and wonderful when the 6 piece invite members of fellow Brisbane darlings Little Scout onto the stage for an insane rendition of “Strawberry K***t,” complete with horse heads and Holy Grail-esque galloping.

At first glance you could mistake British indie band Editors of being slightly dull as they politely take to the stage in tightly pressed dinner suits. The facade quickly drops as they launch into “In This Light and on This Evening,” the anthemic title track of their third record which has been making waves since its’ release late last year. While their sound has become notably darker, they still play with a clean cut precision that maintains the crowd’s attention right through the tight 40 minute set, mixing a healthy dose of old and new tracks including highlights “Blood” and “Smoke Outside the Hospital Doors.”
