“My Sharona” frontman loses battle with cancer
The man that brought us the classic stalwart “My Sharona” has passed away at the age of 57.
The Knack’s frontman Doug Fieger lost his battle with lung cancer in California on February 14 after succumbing to the illness in 2005.
As the muse for the 1979 hit, Sharona Alperin paid tribute to Fieger with the following remark:
“Doug changed my life forever. He left on Valentines Day, a day of heart and love, and that was Doug, all heart and love.”
“My Sharona” is one of the highest grossing rock songs in history. In the US alone, it sold over 1 million copies on its release and has sold many more since.
No party of ours has ever been complete without a spin of “My Sharona,” an all out rock song transcendent of generations. Thanks for the memories and RIP Doug.
